Schools-Who is in Charge?
Our Education Laws say that locally elected School Board Trustees are in charge of the governance of our schools. It makes sense: allow communities to elect representatives to manage a matter that strikes very close to home; the education of their children. Provincial top-down mandates have removed much of the power, but there are still areas that allow local governance. Keeping our representatives accountable for results is important, and the recent Trustee resignations may have meant to do that. The Trustees obviously felt they made the hard decision they needed to, but I am not sure that it was the most effective way to make change. It would have meant a lot of hard work, but taking back control of the district from the unelected senior management would have been a better option. https://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/opinion/opinion-who-is-running-school-district-57-4456494?fbclid=IwAR2_cbhPyKpx21t-SrLBHi9-UZuWSIxo99Ugf-nh0IowNRII6AqvtrSURio #SD57 #schools #SchoolBoardTrustees
